Letter: Call to support House Bill 2922

I’ve got mine, Jack!

The News-Review recently published an excellent article regarding Senator Jeff Kruse and his personal battle against prostate cancer. Impressed by his courage and candor, I wrote to thank him for sharing that experience, because I thought it would help save lives. I also urged Senator Kruse to support House Bill 2922. This law would guarantee all Oregonians access to the kind of medical care Senator Kruse had available to protect his own life.

I was disappointed.

In his E-Newsletter, Senator Kruse vows to protect the present system of rationing of health that we have now: good care for a certain class of people like himself, but no coverage for many other Oregonians.

HB 2922, the Affordable Health Care for All Oregon Plan, would assure that all Oregonians have good health coverage with no co-pays, and no deductibles. It would also assure free choice of providers for every Oregonian — the kind of choice that allowed Senator Kruse to get the very best care available.

Some people have a philosophy of “I’ve got mine, Jack,” meaning that as long as they are taken care of, no one else matters.

Senator Kruse was well taken care of and I’m glad for him. But the question for Senator Kruse now is: Do the rest of us matter?

Do the rest of us matter at all?

If you think other people matter, learn more at and Attend future meetings and events sponsored by Health Care for All Oregon listed on their website calendar. Contact your state representatives and senators to ask them to support House Bill 2922, the Affordable Health Care for All Oregon Plan. As if the rest of us mattered.
