In response to letters appearing Feb. 24, I feel Coach Freeman should invite the first letter writer (a local resident) to appear before his wrestling team as a motivational speaker.
It would probably go as follows: You young men work hard day in and day out trying to make it to the state championship, sacrificing your social life and having to keep a close watch on your diet.
But for those of you who have been there twice and haven’t come home with a championship in your weight class, it may be time to give it up. You certainly don’t want to be a three-time loser like Dr. Robinson. In my humble opinion, U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio is in part responsible for the social and economical decline of our state and county, and I applaud Dr. Robinson for his effort to eradicate it.
In the second letter, the writer offers: “I submit that the NRA is wrong. Guns do kill.” Put a gun in a parked car and wait to see how many lives it takes.
The last sentence of the second to last paragraph speaks again about the NRA: “Do they sway elections with their financial support?” No more so than unions do. And the last paragraph reads, “The responsible limitations on assault weapons and background checks is a sound beginning to address the horrendous loss of life due to weapons that our culture tolerates.” What has been the horrendous loss of life since the 40-year decision of Roe v. Wade? So replace the word “weapons” with “doctors.” And isn’t “doctor-assisted suicide” an oxymoron according to the Hippocratic oath? I’m just sayin’ ...
