Letter: Shop around for heating and cooling service in Roseburg

Beware heating, cooling dealers

My furnace went bad and I had the dealer with the lowest service charge come out, which was $73. The ignitor was bad and it took him less than 10 minutes to replace it. He charged me $173 for the part plus the service, making the bill $246.

The part is nothing special and it fits in my hand. I called around and can get the same part for $52, then have it installed for $80. That’s a total price of $132. I got ripped off for $114.

I called the dealer and he told me he must go by the company book and the price includes his employee going to school and a bunch of other reasons. He would not lower the price. That dealer will never get my business again and here’s hoping he doesn’t get yours, either!
