SUTHERLIN — The Glide baseball team is poised for a successful season this spring — health permitting.
Brenden Fricke and Jacob Fricke combined on a two-hitter as the Wildcats opened their season Wednesday with a 10-0 nonleague win over 4A Sutherlin at the Bulldogs’ field.
Brenden Fricke allowed two hits while striking out six and walking two in five innings of work, then Jacob Fricke struck out five in two innings. Jake Livingston went 3-for-4, Brenden Fricke 2-3 with a double and two RBIs and Tylan DuBois 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs for Glide, which faces 4A Philomath at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Sutherlin.
Wyatt McKnight and Noah Avery had Sutherlin’s hits.

Maurer allowed one run, striking out three and walking none. A.J. Davis picked up the save. Clayton Knous went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and JR Maglinao 2-for-3 for Riddle (1-1).

OAKLAND — The Oakers opened their season on an impressive note, whipping the 3A Bulldogs in a nonleague game that was stopped after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Ryan Comstock went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Jordan Bailey 3-for-3 with three RBIs for Oakland. Sophomore left-hander Roy Benzel pitched a one-hitter, striking out four and walking one.

GLIDE — Heather Graham pitched a four-hit shutout against the 4A Bulldogs in the Wildcats’ season opener.
Graham struck out four and walked none. The only run of the contest came in the bottom of the first inning, when Jordyn Parazoo doubled in Alexa Evans, who had doubled.
Evans went 2-for-3 at the plate. Chey Malinoff pitched well in a losing cause, allowing four hits. She fanned 11 and walked three.

EUGENE — The Roseburg High boys tennis team got off to a strong start by sweeping singles and doubles play against Churchill in its season-opening performance.
Freshman Stefan Ball had an impressive debut as the Indians’ No. 1 singles player, defeating Nathan Hampton 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. RHS’s No. 2, Zach Carter, defeated Shabir Crum 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, and Cole Eibel and Nicholas Norlin-Pritchard both won in straight sets.
The No. 1 duo of Sam Stadter and CJ Ball led a Roseburg doubles showing that didn’t drop a single set. Stadter and Ball disposed of Curtis Bineham and Chuck Tayler, 6-1, 6-2, while the teams of Nick Foley and Alec Johnson, Nate Hansen and Isaac Brickner, and Matt Gade and Tanner Baumgartner also picked up easy wins.
The Indians resumed their schedule today against Thurston at home.
