College Baseball: Ducks, Beavers post wins

EUGENE — Brett Thomas went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run to lead No. 16 Oregon to a 10-4 non-conference win over Texas State at PK Park on Wednesday night.

J.J Altobelli chipped in two hits for Oregon (13-5), going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Tyler Baumgartner scored two runs.

Jordan Spencer (2-0), the second of seven Oregon pitchers, picked up the win. Roseburg graduate Jared Priestley saw his first action of the season, throwing a scoreless inning with one strikeout.

Ryon Healy went 2-for-4 with a solo home run to lead Oregon to a 4-3 win over Texas State Tuesday night.

Jimmie Sherfy picked up his fifth save of the season, allowing only an infield hit in the ninth while striking out three.

The Ducks open Pac-12 play Friday at Southern Cal.

CORVALLIS — Dylan Davis drove in three runs and former Roseburg standout Brandon Jackson earned his third win with 2 2/3 innings of relief to give the third-ranked Beavers a win over the Dons at Goss Stadium.

Davis went 2-for-4 and extended his season-long win streak to eight games. The Beavers improved to 16-1 on the season, bouncing back after a 5-1 loss to San Francisco Tuesday.

Jackson (3-0) came on in relief of Taylor Starr in the fifth and limited USF (7-9 overall) to four hits and two runs — both unearned — while striking out one. Max Engelbrekt earned his fourth save of the season, throwing the last two innings.

Davis hit his first home run of the season to account for OSU’s lone run Tuesday. Dan Child took the loss to fall to 3-1 on the year.

Oregon State opens Pac-12 play Friday against Arizona at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson.
