Prep Softball: Riddle scores 52 runs on 19 hits in sweep

RIDDLE — Thanks to a myriad of walks, the Riddle High softball team needed just 19 hits to notch 27-1 and 25-5 District 2 wins Saturday against Monroe.

Destiny Serda had the longest of those — a pair of home runs in the opener, including a fourth-inning grand slam. She went 3-for-3 with two walks and seven RBIs in the contest.

Kelsey Reid doubled and was on base four times with five RBIs and Sarah Linton went 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Reid had two more hits in the nightcap while Rebecca Jasper hit a two-run double and Daisha Budel a two-run single.

Adrian Chandler threw eight innings on the day, yielding four hits and two runs with nine strikeouts.

The Irish improved to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in District 2 play. Monroe dropped to 0-4 and 0-7.

SUTHERLIN — In nonleague play, the Knights (7-6 overall) accumulated 22 hits on the day and were assisted by seven Sutherlin errors on their way to a sweep.

Kady Kantola went the distance on the mound for the decision and stroked an RBI double in the opener. Emily Allen added an RBI single for the Knights, while Natasha Kress, Kelsea Knee and Reggie Cramer had run-scoring hits for the Bulldogs (3-7).

North Valley’s Emily Allen tossed a five-hitter in Game 2 and Mikala Mohr hit an RBI double. Sutherlin’s Chey Malinoff and Natasha Kress had two hits apiece.

The Bulldogs play a Far West League game Tuesday at Siuslaw.

RIDDLE — Irish sophomore Holly Sanders went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, including the game-winning single that drove in Sarah Linton in the bottom of the seventh inning of the District 2 contest.

Sanders, competing in her first season of softball, came up with the bases loaded and two outs after Linton started the inning with the walk. The hit gave a win to pitcher Adrian Chandler, who pitched all seven innings and struck out six.

Destiny Serda hit two doubles and scored twice for Riddle and Kelsey Reid walked and scored the tying run in the sixth inning on a passed ball.

Cheyenne Depew pitched all seven innings for the Wolves (1-5, 0-3 District 2) and went 2-for-4 with a double. Her sister, Shawna Depew, added a triple and Sam Lydick singled twice.
