Prep Roundup: Roseburg girls second in SWC round

EUGENE — The second round of Southwest Conference girls golf shaped up much like the first one.

For Roseburg High sophomore Clare Dittemore, that meant another day among the leaders. And for the Sheldon Irish, that meant a huge gap between them and everyone else.

Dittemore placed fifth with an 84 on Tuesday at the Eugene Country Club, one week after an 84 in Grants Pass put her in third. Roseburg junior Kiana Cash carded an 85 to finish sixth individually.

But the day, once again, belonged to the Irish, and specifically to the Krause family. Junior Haleigh Krause took medalist honors for the second straight week with a 79 and freshman Jennifer Krause, Haleigh’s sister, shot an 82 to tie teammate Abby Brennan for second. In fourth was Abby Brennan (83), another Sheldon representative.

After two rounds, the Irish are in first place as a team by 102 strokes. Roseburg is comfortably in second place.

On the boys’ side, the first SWC-counting round of the season had first-place Sheldon edging out Roseburg by nine strokes. Sheldon’s Ben Wanichek was the winner with a 73, and teammate Joseph Kuehn was second with a 74.

Roseburg’s individual results were not available by press time.

The Indians will host the next SWC round April 22 at the Roseburg Country Club. Play is scheduled to begin at noon. The girls, who have a non-SWC round next week at the Rogue Valley Country Club, will host their final regular season counter at RCC on April 29.
