Male Prep Athlete of the Week: Erik Rogers

SPORT: Baseball.

POSITIONS: Pitcher, catcher.

AGE: 18.

GPA: 3.3.

OTHER INTERESTS: Football, basketball, hunting, riding four-wheelers.

COLLEGE PLANS: Northwest Lineman College in Meridian, Idaho, to train for electrical line work.

FAVORITE ATHLETE: Jamie Burke, a Roseburg High graduate who played pro baseball with the Mariners, White Sox, Angels and Nationals.

FAVORITE MOVIE: “Remember the Titans.”


PERFORMANCE: Pitched a three-hitter over five innings with nine strikeouts and also went 2-for-3 with a double and RBI in a 12-2 Big Fir League win over North Douglas last week. Entered week with 5-0 record and earned run average of 0.75 and has struck out 44 and walked 11 in 28 innings on the season, and leads team in hitting at .416.

QUOTABLE: On the season — “Our goal was to at least finish in the top three (in league) and go to the (2A/1A) state playoffs. (The winning season) means a lot, it’s pretty awesome for this to happen. Everybody started stepping it up. I feel pretty confident about our chances as long as we keep focusing.”
