Letter: Rose is an exceptional school

Rose School is unique

I have been working within the educational field for 29 years in numerous schools. Last year I had the privilege of working at Rose Elementary.

I was extremely impressed with Rose; it felt different than any other school I have ever worked. People often asked me, “What is it that makes the school feel different?” That was difficult to pinpoint.

The environment was always warm, inviting and almost magical. I know many others who have entered those doors and felt the same.

In retrospect, I realize that all the staff deeply cared about the students’ personal lives, educational success, and promoting their well-being. They all worked for the common good. The students also felt welcomed, cared for and safe. The environment was positive and nurturing.

Of course, all schools do this, but Rose is special and goes far beyond average. The staff and students truly work together as a family.

Many opportunities are offered for these children to feel positive about themselves and the world they live in. Exactly how they make such a difference and shine so brightly, I’m not sure, but Rose is definitely unique.

I am deeply saddened that such a special school as Rose Elementary is slated for closure. Surely each school has its own close-knit community and it is difficult for any school to close.

I simply want to say, “Kudos to Rose for being exemplary in its outstanding relationship between staff and students, and all that really matters!”

Now I am questioning if a bond levy will actually save a school from closing. Originally, the board said the levy passage would likely make no difference to a school closure. However, now they imply that the bond may change that. What are we to believe?
