Prep Roundup: Oakland routs Riddle, ties up BFL baseball race

RIDDLE — The Big Fir League baseball race just got more interesting on Wednesday.

Oakland scored 10 runs over the final two innings and handed Riddle a 13-1 District 4 loss, moving into a tie with the Irish and Umpqua Valley Christian for first place.

Ryan Comstock pitched a five-hitter for the Oakers (7-1, 5-1 BFL), striking out 13 and walking five. Oakland scored three times in the top of the first and never trailed. Jordan Bailey had a pair of hits for the Oakers.

“I tip my hat to them,” Riddle coach Jim Titus said of the Oakers. “(Ryan) Comstock brought it, I was impressed with him. We have to do a better job at the plate and play better defense.”

The Irish (10-3, 5-1) committed six errors. Erik Rogers took his first loss of the season, fanning 12 and walking five in five innings.

Riddle will host UVC Friday.

FLORENCE — The Trojans dropped to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in Far West play with the loss in five innings.

Jake Thompson and Alex Snow combined on a no-hitter for the Vikings (8-4, 3-1), who scored nine runs on eight hits and two walks in the bottom of the third.

LOWELL — The Eagles remained unbeaten in District 2 play as Brianne Joslyn pitched a one-hitter.

Joslyn struck out eight and walked two. Joslyn also went 4-for-4 at the plate with two triples, two doubles and three runs. Brandi Joslyn was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and Whitney Ellis 3-for-5 with three runs.

Yoncalla (13-2, 10-0 District 2) will travel to Glendale Friday, needing a win to remain in sole possession of first place in the league race.

RIDDLE — Emily Lytle pitched a five-hit shutout and went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead the Oakers.

Lytle struck out eight and walked two. Brooke Spencer went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles for Oakland (7-3, 5-3 District 2), while Rebecca Jasper and Kelsey Reid were each 2-for-3 for Riddle (7-3, 5-3).

DRAIN — Bella Mast went 4-for-4 as the host Warriors defeated the visiting Warriors.

Megan Lymath went 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs and Abby Dooley 2-for-4 with two RBIs for North Douglas (7-5, 6-4 District 2). Kelcee Frieze pitched a four-hitter, striking out six and walking one.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Roseburg 13 Marist 10

EUGENE — The Indians came back from a two-goal halftime deficit to improve to 3-0 in South League play.

Breanna Larson scored four goals for Roseburg, which trailed 9-7 at the break. Jaclyn Humphry had three goals, Harlie Johnson and Madeleine West two goals apiece, and Kalina Larecy and Tristen Jones one goal each. Johnson made three assists and Humphry two.

Claire Delacruz made eight saves in the first half, while Cierra Havice stopped five in the second half.

TRACK AND FIELD

TUESDAY MEET

FWL Invitational

NORTH BEND — Alex Jellison won the 200 (27.58) and pole vault (10-6) for the Douglas girls, who finished second behind North Bend in the Far West League Invitational.

Katie Jensen won the 100 hurdles (17.03) and long jump (16-0) for the Trojans. Other county winners included Christina MacDonald of Sutherlin in the shot put (41-11) and javelin (117-4), Kaysandra Maunu of South Umpqua in the 100 (13.13), Ricki Mock of Sutherlin in the 400 (1:03.63) and Brittany Hanson of Sutherlin in the 3,000 (12:17.90).

North Bend won the boys’ meet and South Umpqua finished third. The Lancers got wins from Trevor Duffy in the shot (46-10 1/2) and Lane Marsh in the javelin (163-8), while Nathaniel Vosika of Douglas was first in the long jump (19-9 3/4).
