Prep Softball: Roseburg takes two from Crater

Makinna Akers limited Crater to seven hits on the afternoon and Roseburg moved within a half-game of North Medford in the Southern Oregon Hybrid softball race Saturday with 4-1 and 12-2 wins at Stewart Park.

The second game was stopped after five inning due to the mercy rule. The Indians (11-3, 6-1 SOH) have won six straight.

Akers, a senior right-hander, hurled a four-hitter in the opener with nine strikeouts and one walk. The Tribe broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Roseburg only finished with five hits. Megan Larkin doubled and knocked in two runs, freshman Baylee Wyscaver doubled and had one RBI and Sydney Reynolds contributed a run-scoring single. Malorie Mitchell was 2-for-3 for the Comets (5-12, 1-8).

The Indians stroked 10 hits in the nightcap and took the lead for good with two runs in the first. Allyssa Hunt hit a pair of two-run homers, while Akers and Reynolds were both 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jayde McDowell was 1-for-1 with three runs and two RBIs.

Akers allowed three hits, fanning six and walking one.

“Crater played us tough the first game, then we adjusted at the plate and hit the heck out of the ball in the second game,” said Roseburg coach Tony Campos. “Allyssa Hunt hit some shots.”

The Indians host Sheldon Tuesday in a nonleague game, then play a conference doubleheader at North Medford next Friday, beginning at 2 p.m.
