Letter: Musician made Fourth of July special for Roseburg neighbors

Musician made holiday special

On the Fourth of July, perhaps it wasn’t patriotic of me to be hanging out laundry. But think of Norman Rockwell and it may seem very American, after all.

Anyhow, as I went out to hang the last load, I heard the clear, sweet, liquid tones of a well- played cornet or trumpet, sending out hymns and patriotic songs. What a blessing to hear these on our country’s birthday! To say my heart swelled with pride is a cliché, but does describe the feeling.

A short walk in the neighborhood here on the west side of Roseburg brought me closer to the music, but I never saw the musician — just other people likewise enjoying the songs.

Thank you, whoever you are, for making our holiday special with your music.

Jen Burchell
