Letter: GOP is blocking progress

GOP is blocking progress

Republicans, especially the tea party, are blocking all economic progress, trying to make Obama look ineffective.

They say they’re the party of economic justice and small government. Yet the only time the budget was balanced in the last 20 years was under Bill Clinton, and President Obama has already paid the federal deficit down by more than $300 million.

They say they’re for the common man and family values, yet billionaires like the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson fund this party. The Democratic party is funded by millions of small grass-roots donors.

The Republican motto is: “I got mine, screw you, go get your own.”

They say they’re God fearing and moral, but they try their hardest to cut Social Security, Medicare, food stamps, minimum wage, unemployment insurance and Medicaid. This is moral?

They don’t believe the government has a place in the economy, yet the government saved GM and Chrysler.

They are paranoid.

They’re the party of guns and ignoring statistics. Since the Newtown massacre in December, more people in the U.S. have died from gun violence than all the U.S. soldiers have in Iraq — all nine years combined.

They’re fearful and paranoid and don’t like the fact that white people are becoming a minority. It was OK when blacks were the minority.

Both Harvard Medical School and the University College of London have conducted brain neurology studies that showed heightened responses in conservative brains to fear, paranoia and anxiety. These same studies showed liberal brains respond much better to complexity and higher reasoning powers, especially in science and mathematics.

That says a lot, doesn’t it?

The new Republican motto should be: “My mind is made up, don’t confuse me with the facts.”

The tea party needs to stop blocking progress!
