Letter: She dreamed of housing for homeless vets in Douglas County

A dream for homeless vets

I am a veteran, one of the luckier ones. Many of my buddies and others were not so lucky. That is why I am so very happy to see the housing at the VA grounds almost completed.

I remember more than two years ago being stopped in the park by a young woman and being asked if I was a veteran. When I said I was, she told me about her dream of building housing for homeless veterans and asked me what I thought it should look like. She listened so carefully to what I thought and put my comments in her notebook. I asked her if she really believed she could make it happen. She said she hadn’t been able to get anyone else behind it yet, but was not giving up.

It was her dream and now it is happening. I read it is being called Eagle Landing. That is a good name, but I truly believe it should be named after the young woman who dreamed it. I found her name is Jody Ahlstedt, from UCAN. It was her dream.
