Letter: History drew friends together

History made us friends

New friends come along unexpectedly. I first met Rennie Guyer through email 1 1/2 years ago when I thanked him for an article he wrote about the Applegate house in Yoncalla. In the article, he quoted my grandmother, Annie Applegate Kruse.

I learned that he was writing a book about Douglas County history, so I decided that this was the time to clean out my stored historical material from my daughter’s garage. I bundled it all up and mailed it to Roseburg to Rennie. He was pleased.

From some of that material and much research came his well-written book. Just off the press, “Douglas County Chronicles: History from the Land of One Hundred Valleys,” is now available in Roseburg. It is a wonderful book, and it starts my collection of historical information again!
