MYRTLE CREEK: Stabbing victim in critical condition

A 49-year-old Myrtle Creek man who was stabbed in the upper chest by his live-in girlfriend Tuesday was in critical condition this morning at Mercy Medical Center in Roseburg, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies said Eric Layman was taken to Mercy after being stabbed by his girlfriend, Lonni Baltzley, 51. Deputies and the Myrtle Creek Police Department responded to the reported attack, which took place at about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday at 1034 N. Old Pacific Highway.

Baltzley was arrested on suspicion of first degree-assault and was taken to Douglas County Jail, where she remained this morning.

The case is under investigation.
