Man found hanging in tree behind Roseburg church - Suicide suspected

A young man hung himself from a tree in the 800 block of West Stanton Street, Roseburg police said today.

Roseburg Detective Sgt. Joe Kaney said a groundskeeper for St. Joseph Catholic Church found the man and called police just after 9 a.m. Thursday.

The man was approximately 35 feet up in the tree, he said.

Authorities have not released the man’s name, age or hometown pending notification of next of kin.

The Roseburg Fire Department and Douglas County Fire District No. 2 helped recover the body.

The medical examiner’s office will investigate the death as a probable suicide, Kaney said.
