Letter: Improve traffic flow in Roseburg

Improve traffic flow in town

I don’t understand why the stoplight at the corner of Troost and Garden Valley cannot be the same kind they have at the intersection of Edenbower and Aviation Drive. It could have a special turn signal light, but then go to flashing yellow, with the warning sign above it. This would improve traffic flow, which is the purpose of a traffic light.

There is ample room to see if a car is coming, even accounting for the higher speed of the cars at this intersection. So often, I sit at the Troost and Garden Valley light waiting to turn left and by the time it lets me go, it causes those coming from Melrose to slow down and stop. If the light had been flashing yellow, I would have been long gone and I think the overall traffic flow would be so much better.

I’m certain if I sat out there on the corner with a sign and a billboard asking drivers to sign a petition, I could get hundreds of signatures, but I don’t know if that is the correct way to go about getting the city to change the light.
