Investigation continues into Chrome Nightclub fire

The on-site investigation into a fire that destroyed a nightclub ended Thursday and the office work has begun, Roseburg Fire Marshal Tony DiMare said today.

The fire destroyed Chrome Nightclub, 2455 Diamond Lake Blvd., in the early morning hours Wednesday. No one was inside and no one was injured.

The blaze started in the northeast corner of the building and spread quickly, DiMare said.

He said investigators found a gas can behind the night club, but employees said it was there for a weed trimmer.

“There was nothing suspicious about it,” DiMare said. “There is nothing to indicate the fire was started by introducing ignitable fluids to the scene.”

He said investigators are questioning why the fire started so soon after employees left and why it grew so quickly.

A photo taken by a Roseburg police officer as authorities began responding to the fire shows the building intact. A photo taken by firefighters a short time later shows the building engulfed in flames. The photos, taken in the dark, are of low quality, but can be seen at nrtoday.com.

Insurance company representatives were on scene today.

DiMare said it’s possible investigators won’t be able to determine the cause of the fire.
