Letter: Get loving pets from shelters

Add a furry pal to your family

I just read an Aug. 25 letter in the Public Forum from a man about his dog. I’m still choked up. First, I want to say just how sorry I am for the loss of his beloved pet. I want to say to him, “Bravo,” for writing that letter.

I, also, become very angry every time I hear someone has purchased a pet from a breeder or pet store, when so many beautiful sweet and loving shelter animals are available and waiting for their forever homes.

Often, when I express my feelings about this, people will say that as long as it’s a “reputable” breeder, it’s OK. No, it is not! When the profit is removed, the breeders will go away, along with the puppy mills.

Many breed-specific rescue organizations can be found online if someone desires a certain breed.

So if you’re looking to add a furry member to your family, one who will love you unconditionally and be so grateful to be saved, please, please, adopt from a shelter or other rescue organization.
