Letter: A call for timely, effective Roseburg VA Cemetery care

Our veterans deserve better

Regarding the National Veterans Cemetery and response to veterans: In no way is it acceptable to have any part of the Veterans’ cemetery brown and dead-looking at any time of the year. I saw it from the air over the weekend and two-thirds of the new grounds are dead. Those responsible should be looking for a new job.

Spending $1,000 on irrigation is not even going to come close to resolving the problem. Anyone involved with landscaping and trees knows darn well that newly transplanted trees need deep watering for two to three years after they’re planted.

Will this get resolved in a timely and adequate manner? I hope so, but I’ve seen the VA administration or politics or whatever at work in the system for years now. There are many things that have been promised that have never come to be, so being optimistic is difficult. Our veterans deserve better.
