A 32-year-old Roseburg man was sentenced today to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his third sex crime conviction.
Anthony Cavallaro was found guilty in June by a Douglas County Circuit Court jury of two counts of attempted sex abuse. The victim was a 10-year-old girl, and the charges stemmed from Cavallaro’s conduct in August 2011, according to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office.
Under Oregon’s three-strikes law for sex offenders, Cavallaro faced a life sentence unless Judge George Ambrosini found compelling reasons for a lesser sentence. He did not.
Cavallaro was sentenced to three years in prison for a May 2000 conviction of first-degree attempted sex abuse in Josephine County. He was also convicted of first-degree sex abuse in September 2005 in Douglas County. He was sentenced to six years and three months in prison for the second conviction,
