Letter: Service to Oregon constituents appreciated

Hats off to Rep. Bruce Hanna

I would like to take this opportunity to praise the years of public service performed by my good friend and colleague, Rep. Bruce Hanna.

For most of the last decade, Rep. Hanna has served in the Oregon House of Representatives with honor and distinction. He is well-regarded by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle due to his dedication, passion and hard work.

While representing House District 7, Rep. Hanna took on some of the highest roles of leadership in all of Oregon state government. His service as co-speaker during the 2011 session, in which the House was evenly divided between both parties, became a model of bipartisanship and earned national accolades for the statesmanship involved.

Rep. Hanna had, and continues to have, the complete faith and trust of Republican legislators throughout the state. He decided not to continue in a leadership role, although he would have had overwhelming support if he’d continued down that path.

I have spent the last several months following in Rep. Hanna’s footsteps as House Republican Leader. In that time, Rep. Hanna has been a valuable mentor and a trusted friend as I pursue the example he has set for all of us.

It is uncertain what the immediate future holds for Rep. Hanna as he considers his next steps in life. But regardless of what he decides to do, I and many of the legislators he has worked with throughout the years will support him, and continue to praise his efforts to make Oregon and its communities better places to live.

Rep. Mike McLane

House Republican Leader
