Letter: Let's spruce up Roseburg

Make Roseburg a Vibrant City

Is Roseburg eligible for a mention on the List of Vibrant Cities? It all began for me in 2006. After having back surgery, I was walking through the city streets as physical therapy and became acutely aware of the litter amassed in storm drains, sidewalks and crevices everywhere.

I began using a “reacher” to pick up litter, put it in a plastic shopping bag, then dispose of the trash in garbage containers the City of Roseburg provided. In these years, I began to ponder something unique about downtown. The city belongs to all of us — not like a shopping mall or a shopping center. Since it belongs to everyone, we need to have a personal investment in making our city shine.

I am pleased to see a professional in our city has purchased the Willis House historical building;, but I am also really excited that private citizens belonging to no organization are working and investing personal time and resources to make Roseburg shine.

So I’d like to enlist the support of my Roseburg neighbors to “pick up” what we’ve left behind. Let’s get Roseburg on the Vibrant Cities list.
