Letter: Support Douglas County’s search for economic security

Job loss a sad development

It was very sad to read the news that the American Bridge manufacturing facility on our coast will close. The 51 jobs lost there will not be easy to replace. The workers who held those jobs will be hard-pressed to find other jobs of equal pay and benefits.

As former president of Umpqua Training and Employment, I was at the table and had the pleasure of watching Commissioner Doug Robertson make our pitch and expertly reel in American Bridge 14 years ago. I know Doug, Commissioners Morgan and Laurance and the Industrial Development Board members won’t let this setback slow their efforts to assist employers and help workers to find economic security.

It’s our job to support their efforts.
