Letter: Back-in parking plan may negatively affect Roseburg commerce

Reconsider the back-in parking

I have been reading about the pros and cons of back-in parking in the area of the post office in Roseburg.

Here is how I see this playing out: they are going to make it a one way street. That means the person who is going to back in will have to stop past the parking space. What about the car that is following him and just wants to go straight through? Is he or she going to stop with sufficient space for the person to back into the space?

Most of the time, maybe they will be courteous enough to do that. But let’s face it; not all drivers are willing to wait while someone backs in and if you get two drivers with bad tempers in this situation, you have a problem.

I for one will just stop going to the post office. I’ll cancel my mailbox and get my mail at the box at home. Nowadays, there is no reason to have to use the post office in Roseburg.

In closing, let me say that this is a very bad idea. It is on par with putting a round-about at the Lowe’s intersection.
