MYRTLE CREEK: Arrest made in hit-and-run

An 80-year-old man told Myrtle Creek police Sunday he blacked out and thought he hit some mailboxes rather than a person as he drove south on South Main Street on Thursday afternoon. Glenn Wesley Meacham turned himself in Sunday after reading an account on the Internet detailing how Myrtle Creek resident Robert M. Mahle, 49, was seriously injured after being struck by a pickup as he walked south on Main Street, across from Ray’s Food Place. “He knew he had hit something ,but he thought it was mailboxes,” Myrtle Creek Police Chief Don Brown said this morning.
