UMPQUA NATIONAL FOREST Mushroom harvest opens Matsutake mushroom harvest season will open Sept. 4 in the Umpqua National Forest. The season will end Nov. 4. Anyone harvesting matsutake mushrooms in a national forest must purchase a permit. Permits are available at Umpqua National Forest ranger district offices and are $200 for a 62-day season, $100 for a half-season permit or $8 a day with a minimum of three-day purchase.
