City tells secondhand stores to move their goods indoors

Many of Roseburg’s 18 secondhand stores lure customers by displaying merchandise outside. City officials are telling them to stop. The city has put the stores on notice that they must bring all their goods indoors by Nov. 1 or risk a $1,500 fine. City officials say they’ve received six complaints from four people that the outdoor displays of used merchandise are ugly and make Roseburg look bad. Store owners say putting their wares inside will have a disastrous effect on business and predict the smaller stores won’t survive. “It’s going to make all these secondhand stores look like ghost towns,” …
