ROSEBURG Man arrested following beating of woman A 26-year-old Sutherlin man suspected of beating a woman and holding her down by her throat was arrested late Monday by Roseburg police. Roseburg police responded at 11:35 p.m. to a report of a man beating a woman near the intersection of Alameda Avenue and Vine Street. Several witnesses told officers that Marcus Presley Smith struck the woman and restrained her by her neck, according to police.
