Myrtle Creek veteran returns to Vietnam

The first time Ken Martin was in Vietnam, he was wounded three times in a month and a half, including being burned by a phosphorous grenade. He returned to Vietnam last month with a group of veterans, and the country was nearly unrecognizable to Martin, 64, of Myrtle Creek. Seeing a rebuilt Vietnam helped Martin make peace with the experiences he had there 45 years ago as a young Marine. “I just wanted to see the country as it is and not as it was, and I was not disappointed in that way,” he said. “It’s not war-torn.” Last summer, …
