Oregon State Police seek tips to catch elk poachers

Oregon State Police is seeking tips to find the people who illegally shot and wasted a large bull elk on Thunder Mountain sometime within the last two weeks. The body of the 5 by 5 point bull was found off Thunder Mountain Road about three miles from the Peel County Store in a recently cleared area owned by a logging company. OSP Senior Trooper Wayne Merritt said today he believes the elk was killed within the last seven to 10 days. Taking a bull elk out of season and wasting an elk are both Class A misdemeanors.
