After eight years sniffing around for the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, police dog Kilo apparently enjoyed his retirement ceremony Wednesday at the Douglas County Courthouse. The 11-year-old yellow Labrador retriever was presented a plaque, a canine-appropriate cake and a handshake from Sheriff John Hanlin. “He’s a pretty special dog,” Hanlin said. “He was always eager to work and very motivated.” The sheriff said his office hopes to add a patrol dog in the near future. Dogs trained in suspect apprehension tend to be of more aggressive breeds, such as German shepherds, so Kilo’s replacement likely won’t have his same easygoing …
