Oregon Coast state park named for Roseburg native Brian Booth

NEWPORT — A newly combined state park on the Oregon Coast has been named after a Roseburg native who served for many years on the Oregon State Parks and Recreation Commission and was its first chairman. Ona Beach State Park and the adjacent Beaver Creek State Natural Area eight miles south of Newport are now known as Brian Booth State Park. The name change was unanimously approved by the commission at its Jan. 30 meeting. “That’s fitting to name that park after Brian,” said Tom Keel, who headed Douglas County’s Parks Department for 25 years and graduated a year ahead …
