Breaking News: Woman's body recovered from South Umpqua River

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was still unable Saturday to identify the woman whose body was spotted Friday in the South Umpqua River near the Douglas County Fairgrounds.

Sheriff’s department Corporal Mark Norris said Saturday an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

While the department has received some phone calls, no one has reported a missing woman who matches the evidence, Norris said.

Norris said deputies do not have enough information yet to determine whether the woman was the victim of a homicide or an accident.

Sheriff’s deputies and Roseburg police officers responded to a boat launch near the fairgrounds Friday around 12:30 p.m. to investigate after the woman’s body was spotted by fishermen.

The sheriff’s office asked for the public’s help in identifying the woman. The sheriff’s office number is 541-440-4471.
