Truth of Youth: What are your plans for the summer?

Kelsi Miller, sophomore, Home-schooled

“This summer, I want to focus on honing my skills and talents in order to better serve the Lord. I’ll attend Christian Youth in Action camp for my third year to gain some more in-depth training in sharing the Gospel. I’ll be in the orchestra pit of ‘Fiddler on the Roof’ to improve my violin and ensemble playing skills. I also want to focus on improving my writing skills, so I will finish writing the first draft of my currently unnamed futuristic sci-fi political drama, as well as try my hand at writing screenplays so that my videographer sister can film and produce them. Finally, I will participate in the 4-H Public Speaking competition at the county fair, and I will likely spend a good deal of time writing and rehearsing my speeches leading up to that event. All in all, my summer will be busy but meaningful.”

Alexander Hartzell, senior, Milo Adventist Academy

“My summer plans have changed since the summer started this last week. Originally, I was not going to work, but now I am going to work probably one day out of the week. I also recently ordered my textbooks for college and so I plan on looking over those. One week this summer, my family is going to camp meeting and another week we have plans to take a trip along the California coast with some friends. Since this is my last summer before college, I want to spend as much time with my family as possible, and so we want to do camping trips and day hikes throughout the summer. I am sure other things will come up as the summer progresses. It will be a busy summer, but a fun one as well.”

Sarah Blum, seventh grade, Cobb School

“My summer plans consist of going to SOU Academy in late June and a cruise to Alaska in late August. I also have swim team every weekday through the summer, so I can’t leave for somewhere too long. Other than that, I don’t have much planned yet. I’m thinking about taking some classes at the arts center or a couple of classes at Umpqua Community College, but I haven’t decided yet. My summer looks like it’s going to have a lot of sitting around and relaxing.”
