Dorothy Mary Wilson, age 98, passed away Saturday, August 4, 2018. She had recently moved to Brookdale after living 14 years at Oak Park Assisted Living where she had many friends among the staff and residents.

Born December 7, 1919, in New Castle, Colorado, to John and Lottie Thexton, Dorothy and her younger sister, Marjorie (Mrs. Tom Anson), grew up on a ranch. They attended college in Greeley, Colorado. Dorothy studied to become a teacher. She began her teaching career in Colorado at Garfield Creek, a one room school house, in 1939.

Dorothy met her future husband Dick (Richard) Wilson at a dance. They married on December 22, 1940. Their daughter Marjorie was born on Dorothy’s birthday seven years later.

In 1954, Dick, Dorothy, and Marjorie moved to Roseburg, Oregon. Dorothy taught at Riverside Elementary from 1954 until retirement in 1978. Many remember her fondly as their teacher.

After their retirement Dorothy and Dick enjoyed travelling, often stopping to play golf. Twice Dorothy made a hole-in-one. They enjoyed winter stays in Tucson, Arizona. Dorothy also enjoyed trips abroad with friends after Dick’s death.

Marjorie and Bill Ocumpaugh blessed Dorothy and Dick with two grandchildren, Jaclyn and Ethan. Jaclyn and her husband, Ken Carmichael, further blessed her with a great-grandson, Wilson Scott Carmichael. Dorothy is survived by them and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister, her husband, and her parents.

At Dorothy’s request there will be no funeral.
