Richard Charles John Jr.

Richard John Jr.

In memory of Richard Charles John Jr. 82, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2018 with family by his side. He was born on August 12, 1935 in Vancouver WA to the late Richard C. and Dorothy L (Pargeon) John. He is predeceased in death by a brother (Ralph John). Richard was married to Shirley A. Hall on October 23, 1960.

Richard graduated from Roseburg High School (1953) and Oregon Technical Institute (1955) in carpentry. He was later inducted into the alumni “Golden Owls”. He was in the Navy and Naval reserves from 1956 to 1959, and upon an honorable discharge began his career as a carpenter. This was his job, but he also possessed a love of the trade and skill. One would not know of all of his passions as he was a very private and soft spoken person. As we write this obituary to reflect on his life, we remember a love for weekend retreats at his parents cabin at the river or beach, baking cookies and making Christmas candy with mom. He sewed on board the Navy ship “USS Essex” repairing uniforms for his shipmates to earn a few extra bucks. Today as we remember Rich (our dad) it is as a loving husband and father and we will miss him.

He is survived by his wife; Shirley Ann (Hall)John, children; Richard C. John, Ramona E. (Dave) Richardson, Annette K. (Pat) John-Dhaenens, Earl S. John and grandchildren, Judith and Brandon Richardson, Klota and Hanna John-Dhaenens and Michelle John, and 5 great grandchildren. As Dad always said for any important day, Merry Christmas, it’s only fitting today to wish him that.

Funeral services will be held at the National Cemetery with Military honors in Roseburg Oregon on Friday, March 16 at 10 a.m.
