Incumbent Carol McGinnis Roberts defeated challenger Dale Rogers, 57 percent to 43 percent, to secure a fourth six-year term as Canyonville Justice of the Peace.

Patty Hitt, appointed by Douglas County commissioners to replace Barbara Nielsen as county clerk when Nielsen retired at the beginning of the year, was all but elected Tuesday to a four-year term.

Voters approved a bond that will help the North Douglas School District purchase new technology and update a fire alarm system among other needed improvements.

An attempt to bring rural property owners into Douglas County Fire District No. 2 failed Tuesday when the owners of those properties torpedoed a ballot measure that would have annexed them into the district.

Despite tough criticism from a challenger, incumbent Douglas County District Attorney Rick Wesenberg won in a landslide.

Wesenberg secured 74 percent of the vote. His challenger, Roseburg lawyer Charles Lee, received 26 percent.

Douglas County is fortunate to have had elected leaders who were looking ahead.
