Pepsi stays alive behind Backen's blast

NORTH BEND - Jake Backen has apparently saved his best for last with the Pepsi Bottlecaps. The third-year player on the American Legion ‘A' squad, who was also a member of the Roseburg High baseball team, did not get many chances to show what he could do in big moments during his career with the Indians. But on Thursday, Backen corked one of Pepsi's biggest hits of the season in a 7-3 win against North Coos at the state tournament to keep the Bottlecaps alive.
