Sutherlin can’t overcome slow first half

SUTHERLIN — The Sutherlin Bulldogs let mistakes in key parts of the game and a lack of rush defense cost them in their Far West League opener against the visiting Brookings Bruins on Friday night. Brookings’ rushing attack netted 360 yards and six touchdowns against Sutherlin en route to a 41-23 win. “They did a great job running the ball and not turning it over,” Sutherlin coach Josh Gary said. “In big situations we shot ourselves in the foot.” Justin Murray, a junior who was playing in his second game at running back, ran for 161 yards on 16 carries …
