The temperature was 8 degrees Tuesday, the first day of the year, and Diamond Lake was covered by ice and snow. The conditions didn’t stop Paul Heberling of Roseburg from going fishing. At about 9 a.m., he was the first angler to venture out on Diamond Lake’s frozen cover, which amounted to a couple of inches of ice, some slush and about 12 inches of snow.
