Prep Basketball: Oakland boys whip Vernonia in 2A tourney opener

PENDLETON — The Oakland boys basketball team took care of business in its OSAA Class 2A tournament opener on Wednesday night at the Pendleton Convention Center. The third-ranked Oakers limited Vernonia to 28 percent field-goal shooting and forced 24 turnovers in a 61-46 quarterfinal victory, moving within two wins of the state championship. Oakland (22-5) advances to a semifinal game against No. 5 Pilot Rock (23-5), a 55-40 winner over No. 7 Oakridge, at 8:15 p.m. Friday night.
