Prep Basketball: Elmira eliminates South Umpqua boys

ELMIRA — It wasn’t South Umpqua’s night Friday in the OSAA Class 4A boys basketball playoffs. Elmira took a 17-point halftime lead, weathered a South Umpqua rally in the third quarter and pulled away in the fourth period for a 71-45 victory, advancing to the state tournament this week at Gill Coliseum in Corvallis. Jessep Fay had 19 points, Mikah Reed 16 points and nine rebounds, and Travis Boggs 15 points and eight assists for the Falcons (18-6), who will play Cascade (24-1) at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in a quarterfinal game.
