Anne Creighton Blodgett: Supermom. Or not.

It’s time to accept the facts. I’m no supermom.

I’m not the woman who can hold down a 9 to 5 job, keep the house clean, please her husband, run five miles, take 24-hour care of a 7-month-old, and still have a nice dinner on the table in the evening.

Heck, it’s a personal victory if I get a shower in and make the bed during the day.

Don’t get me wrong. I love being a mom, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything, but I’m finding that it’s really hard to do it all, or at least do it all well.

Liam is crawling – barely – but he’s good enough at it that he can cover 15 feet in a matter of seconds if he puts his mind to it. So I have one eye on my computer screen (editing, posting, blogging, etc. for my photography business) and one eye on him. And about every 45 seconds I’m running back and forth between the two.

Something has got to give - and it’s usually housework, which means my husband gets to come home to a messy house and pose the question, “What have you been doing all day?”

And although that question makes me want to punch him in the face (am I right, ladies?!), I can see where he’s coming from. I feel like I don’t get anything done during the day either despite my best efforts and intentions.

Failure, no matter how small or insignificant, is a very frustrating feeling. And the only advice I can give myself is to try and be better.

So I’ll go back to trying to obtain the rank of supermom. And maybe someday I’ll get there.

Or maybe someday I’ll hire a housekeeper.

Until then, here’s are three things I’ve come up with that I think will help me succeed:

1. Get up earlier

2. Limit time on Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram

3. Assign certain chores for certain days of the week (i.e. Monday is laundry, Tuesday is bathrooms, etc.).

What works for you, moms?
