Cascade Christian defeated Umpqua Valley Christian 7-5 on Thursday night in a nonleague baseball game at Bill Gray Stadium at Legion Field.

The 1A Monarchs took a 2-1 lead in the second inning, but the 3A Challengers (15-11) scored twice in the third to go ahead 3-2. The Monarchs tied up the game at 4-4 in the fifth inning and took the lead with one run in the sixth.

Cascade Christian rallied, though, with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Both clubs committed five errors.

CJ Gale batted 3-for-4 with an RBI for UVC (18-7). Kolby Mahoney and Jacob Mesa each knocked in runs.

The Monarchs will host a 2A/1A playoff game on May 24.
