PORTLAND — Umpqua’s second leading scorer and leading rebounder played less than 11 minutes each and top-ranked Portland ran away from the Riverhawks for a 97-77 victory in Saturday’s Northwest Athletic Conference Southern Region men’s basketball game.

Guard Connor Shaw and forward Cody Gray, both freshmen for UCC, played 10 minutes and seven seconds in the loss. Neither scored.

Portland (15-2, 4-0 South) led 43-30 at the half and outrebounded the Riverhawks (11-5, 2-1) 51-35.

Gabe Garrett scored a game-high 24 points for the Panthers, who had three players record double-doubles in points and rebounds.

Coleman Johnson led UCC with 19 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks and three steals, while David Vasquez had 19 points. Ethan Betts was also in double figures with 12 points.

UCC will host Southwestern Oregon on Wednesday. The Lakers lost to Clark, 87-84, on Saturday.
