Umpqua Community College’s volleyball team took a trip up I-5 to scrimmage at Lewis & Clark College in Portland on Wednesday.

The Riverhawks’ next match will be at Centralia, Washington, at 5:30 p.m. next Friday.

UCC, under the guidance of sixth-year coach Lacy Pinard, has four returning sophomores on its roster and the team is hoping to improve on last year’s record of 13-24 overall.

The Riverhawks will have to finish in the top four in the Southern Region to advance to the NWACs. They open league play Sept. 21 when they travel to Vancouver, Washington, to face Clark Community College.
