Elisa Kooiman had 28 points and 18 rebounds, and Whatcom upset the No. 2-ranked Umpqua Community College women’s basketball team, 96-92, in the Lower Columbia Holiday Classic on Thursday in Longview, Wash.

The Orcas (6-3) trailed 54-48 at halftime, but outscored the Riverhawks 48-38 in the second half to take the victory.

Allison Hadaway and Rachel Sande each scored 16 points for Whatcom, which won despite shooting .387 (36-for-93) from the field.

Sophomore guard Taylor Stricklin finished with 30 points for Umpqua (9-2), hitting six 3-pointers. Grace Campbell posted a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds, Darian Mitchell contributed a double-double with 17 points and 19 boards, and Lexi Woodard added 10 points and eight rebounds. Cielo Gonzalez made nine assists and Sienna Riggle pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Riverhawks held a 60-42 rebounding advantage, but shot .429 (36-for-84) from the field and committed 25 turnovers.
