Umpqua Community College’s men’s wrestling team finished 11th at Saturday’s Menlo Open tournament, which was won by host Menlo College, in Atherton, California.
The Riverhawks brought 10 wrestlers to the event.
In the 149-pound bracket, Garrett Russell fell to Daniel Van Hoose of Colorado Mesa University in the quarterfinals. He then fell to Cal Poly’s Tyler Schilling in the consolation match.
Brayden Wright (157) also made it to the quarterfinals of the 14-team competition. He dropped a 2-1 decision to Esteban Molina and another decision to Luke Au-Yeung of CMU in the consolation bracket.
Gottlieb Davis lost an 8-6 decision to Minnesota Moorehead’s Evan Foster in the 197-pound quarterfinals. Doug Peyser of Simon Fraser University went on to pin Davis in the consolation match.
Brayden Schultz was also bested in the quarterfinals of the 197-pound competition. The Douglas High graduate lost a 13-0 major decision to Bruce Valdez of Menlo College in the quarters and a 9-3 decision to Menlo’s Thomas Schmitt in consolation.
Adam Lamb won five matches in the 285-pound bracket, but ended in the consolation bracket after a 7-5 decision loss to Sean Molle in the second round. Lamb faced Molle again in the consolation semifinals where Lamb fell in 2:30.
Josh Hammers lost his first match in the 174-pound bracket, but then went on to defeat Tyler Farless of Minnesota Moorehead and Alex Alberto of Schreiner University in the consolation bracket before losing a 14-6 major decision to Menlo College’s Young An.
Jesse Ramirez also wrestled at 174. He won one match in the consolation bracket, before being eliminated.
Nathan Kiddo (125) lost his opener, won his first consolation match and then lost in overtime to Warner Pacific’s Connor Finch in the second consolation match.
Dallas O'Bryan was eliminated from the tournament on an injury forfeit in the third round of the consolation bracket to Cortez Rodelo of Warner Pacific.
Grant Laiblin (141) lost back-to-back matches and was eliminated.
UCC will compete next at the Boxer Open next Sunday in Forest Grove.
